Sherpa BASE 5.0
5,040Wh of off-grid power, 5kW pure sine wave inverter, scales to a 80kWh house bank
The BASE 5.0 is Sherpa’s flagship portable power station for serious off-grid use and whole-home backup. 5,040Wh of LiFePO₄ capacity, a 5kW pure sine wave inverter, fast 2.3-hour AC charging and a 2,100W solar MPPT input that takes the unit from empty to full in 2.4 hours. Add up to 15 BASE 5.0-EB extra batteries to scale system capacity all the way up to 80,640Wh. UPS-style backup mode hands over from grid to battery in 8–20ms when the power cuts. Backed by Sherpa’s 5-year UK warranty.
Built for off-grid living, mobile installs & home backup
The BASE range is the line you reach for when you’ve outgrown a portable PEAK unit. 5kW continuous output means it runs domestic kettles, induction hobs, deep fat fryers, washing machines, full coffee setups and electric heaters — the loads where 2–3kW units start hitting their inverter ceiling. It’s sized for stationary use (51kg, fixed install in a garage, utility room or cabin) but ships with a tray of wheeled mobility for when you need to move it.
- Off-grid living & van conversions: motorhome, large campervan, narrowboat or remote cabin power without the mass and gassing of a lead-acid bank
- Whole-home backup: UPS-style switchover (8–20ms) keeps fridges, routers, computers and medical equipment running through power cuts
- Marine house bank: the integrated battery + inverter package eliminates the bolted-on inverter that traditional leisure-battery setups rely on
- Roadside welfare cabins & site work: silent, zero-emission alternative to diesel generators for site offices, tea points and tool charging
- Workshop & trade: hot-stamping presses, table saws, plasma cutters — loads that draw heavy and need clean sine wave power
5kW pure sine wave inverter, 7kW peak surge
The on-board inverter delivers 5,000W of continuous pure sine wave power, with a 7,000W peak surge for under one second to handle inrush from motors and compressors. Pure sine output means no risk to sensitive electronics — medical equipment, modern fridges, computers and audio gear all behave exactly as they would on grid power.
UPS-style backup — 8–20ms switchover
Plug your essential appliances into the BASE 5.0’s AC outputs and feed grid power through the unit. When the power cuts, the BASE 5.0 hands over from grid to battery in 8–20 milliseconds — fast enough to keep computers, routers, fridges, freezers and most home medical equipment running without rebooting.
- Pass-through mode: grid power flows through the unit while the battery sits topped up
- Automatic failover: when grid drops, battery kicks in within 20ms
- Automatic recovery: when grid returns, the unit switches back and resumes charging
- Suitable as an UPS for home offices, server cabinets, freezers full of stock, oxygen concentrators and CPAP machines
15 output ports for genuine versatility
Run almost any device you own without needing a single adapter or extension lead. All ports laid out across one face of the unit for easy access, with integrated wheels on the base for the moments when you do need to wheel 51kg of LiFePO₄ somewhere.
- 5 × AC sockets — UK 3-pin, 220–240V / 50Hz pure sine wave for high-power mains appliances
- 4 × USB-A ports — smart-charge ports that self-regulate for connected devices
- 2 × USB-C ports — up to 100W PD, fast-charges modern laptops, tablets, phones
- 2 × DC 5525 ports — for 12V-class accessories like LED strips, small fans, monitors
- 1 × aux car port — standard 12V cigarette-lighter for diesel heaters, DC fridges, vehicle accessories
- 1 × 30A Anderson output — for DC-DC chargers, high-current accessories and link-out to extra batteries
All DC outputs are smart-regulated — they detect what’s plugged in and deliver the correct voltage and current automatically.
Scales from 5kWh to 80kWh as your needs grow
The big differentiator versus single-piece power stations: the BASE 5.0 is the host unit for an expandable system. Start with one BASE 5.0 at 5,040Wh. Add BASE 5.0-EB extra batteries as your capacity needs grow. Scale all the way up to 15 EB units linked to a single host for a total of 80,640Wh of LiFePO₄ storage.
- 1 host: 5,040Wh — weekend off-grid, home backup essentials
- 1 host + 1 EB: 10,080Wh — week-long off-grid, full home backup
- 1 host + 3 EB: 20,160Wh — off-grid cabin, multi-day welfare cabin
- 1 host + 7 EB: 40,320Wh — serious off-grid living, whole-home solar storage
- 1 host + 15 EB: 80,640Wh — commercial-grade energy reserve
Power and charge sharing across all linked units happens automatically once they’ve balanced after first connection. Capacity scales linearly; output capability stays at the host’s 5kW.
Three charging methods, all simultaneous
The BASE 5.0’s power management can accept charge from multiple sources at the same time — mains topping up while solar feeds in — while running connected loads from the battery. No need to choose between charging and using.
AC mains charging — 2.3 hours
From flat to full in approximately 2.3 hours on a standard 13A UK wall outlet. The fastest mains-charge time in this capacity class.
Solar / hybrid renewable — 2.4 hours
The high-efficiency MPPT controller accepts 18–140V solar input up to 2,100W — full charge in 2.4 hours from a properly-sized array. Compatible with Sherpa SunFold 220 and most third-party MC4-terminated panels. The MPPT also handles wind (DC) and hydroelectric (DC) inputs for fully off-grid setups.
Vehicle 12V trickle charging
Trickle-charge through the vehicle’s 12V socket while travelling for top-ups in transit. Pair with the Sherpa Charge 500 alternator charger for serious vehicle-based recharging that turns engine hours into stored energy.
Automotive-grade LiFePO₄ cells — 3,500+ cycles
The BASE 5.0 uses automotive-grade lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO₄) cells — the safest, longest-lived lithium chemistry available. Rated for 3,500 cycles to 80% original capacity, which translates to 10+ years of daily use from full to empty before any noticeable capacity drop. In practice, most users never come close to that cycle count and can expect 15+ years of useful life.
- No cobalt, no nickel — reduced thermal-runaway risk vs NMC chemistries used in EVs and laptop batteries
- Stable across wide temperature ranges — safer in unconditioned garages, sheds and vehicles than older lithium chemistries
- No off-gassing — safe to install in enclosed cabinets where flooded or AGM lead-acid cannot be sited
- Recyclable — LFP recycling is now established UK industry; end-of-life disposal is straightforward
Battery Management System — multi-layer protection
The BASE 5.0’s integrated BMS continuously monitors cell voltages, current, temperature and overall pack health, and trips protection well before any cell damage can occur.
- Overcharge protection — prevents cell damage from over-voltage during charging
- Deep-discharge protection — battery automatically cuts off output before cell damage
- Over-current protection — trips on excessive load draw to protect cells and inverter
- Short-circuit protection — trips in microseconds on a short on the output
- Over-temperature protection — tripts on hot cells, hot inverter, hot ambient
- Under-temperature protection — prevents damaging charge attempts at sub-freezing cell temperatures
- Cell-balance monitoring — equalises cells over the life of the pack to maximise capacity retention
All protections self-reset automatically once the trigger condition clears, or on first re-connection of the charger. No manual intervention required for normal operation.
